About Us
Singularity Film is a nonprofit film production company based in Foster City, California, founded in 2023 (formerly Rhizome Films, 2017-2023). The studio represents award-winning filmmakers Anastasia Shubina and Timofey Glinin.
Singularity Film produces independent documentaries, art films, and video art, with a focus on strong authorship, cinematic form, and innovative storytelling. Its catalog brings together seven award-winning works under a single creative platform.
The studio’s projects explore anthropology, ethnography, Indigenous communities, cultural transformation, and contemporary developments in science and medicine.
Anastasia Shubina & Timofey Glinin
Directors, producers, cinematographers
Award-winning directors, photographers and new media artists. Combining backgrounds in both science and art — Timofey holds a PhD in Genetics, while Anastasia holds Master’s degrees in Biology and Philosophy and is also an established new media artist — they work at the intersection of documentary film, photography, and contemporary science, exploring themes of anthropology, longevity science, transhumanism, and speculative futures. Their works have been presented in over 100 exhibitions and major festivals worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, the Musée du Quai Branly — Jacques Chirac (Paris), the McCord Stewart Museum (Montreal), and the ANU Museum (Tel Aviv). They are recipients of numerous awards, including the BarTur Photo Award “Faces of Humanity, ” the Ann Lesley BarTur Award, and POY Asia. Their films have screened at leading documentary festivals and received multiple honors, including Sheffield DocFest (UK), the 45th Cinéma du Réel (Paris, Special Prize), the 72nd Trento Film Festival (Italy, Special Mention), Somerville International Film Festival (USA, Best Documentary), the Grand Jury Prize at the Family Film Project (Portugal), and the Grand Prize at The World of Knowledge IFF. Ilya Fomin
Producer
Ilya Fomin is a California-based producer and musician, currently leading the technical team for YouTube Live at Google. He produces art documentary films by emerging and established directors, including the new media project Rob Nilsson’s Art Forms in collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Rob Nilsson, whose work has earned the Camera d’Or at Cannes (1979) and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance (1988). Ilya also produced The Way Things Seem To Be (2024) by Zhan Petrov, a film about Nilsson; Petrov’s documentary How I See (2023); and the VR project Fire Together.
